lyrics

WHO WAS I THAT CHRISTMAS (Prince/Jones)

The photo fell out of the card
The image was covered with glitter
We stood so close by the tree
Our breakup hit me so hard
Though I've long since stopped feeling bitter
But back then I was a different me

Who was I that Christmas
Who were we back then
If I were ever to have the chance
Would I do it all again

I looked at the cards that we received
Memories flooded back in my mind
But it all seemed so far in the past
At the time you know I truly believed
Thought our love was somehow divine
Never once thought it wouldn't last

Over the years I have journeyed
To a much happier place
Seems like a whole lifetime ago
Once again, seeing your face

Who was I that Christmas
Who were we back then
I don't think if I had the chance
That I would do it all again

So I’ll put the photo back in the card
Then I’ll throw them both away
Wave goodbye to that hurt forever
And be thankful for what I have today
