I had a box of little things
I kept it underneath my bed
A hawk's soft feather
A rubber ball, bright red

So many favorite mementos
With no value except to me
A post card from my Grandpa
A rusty skeleton key

What makes a treasure
Surely not only gold
But things that bring a smile
To the young and to the old
What makes a keepsake
An eye from a teddy bear
A fossil in a rock you found
Photos you hold so dear

I only had a coupla items
In my box early on
But now it’s full of riches
I'd so miss if they were gone

In my box there is an acorn
A lucky buckeye and a dime
I look through my box often
Whenever I have the time

What makes a treasure
Surely not only gold
